Lawson Software to Acquire Enwisen…from Lawson Software

December 21, 2010

Lawson and Enwisen together represent one of the broadest sets of Human Capital Management solutions in the industry

HRchitect includes Lawson in our list of top HRIS vendors that businesses should consider. If you are looking for a new Talent Management System, or any HR system, talk to HRchitect first. HRchitect has unparalleled knowledge of the HR and Talent Management vendor community and can save you time and money in selection and implementation. Simply put, do not invest in any kind of HR technology without consulting with the experts first. HRchitect is always available to help!

Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN) announced recently that it will acquire Enwisen, a leading software-as-a-service provider of human resource service delivery solutions used by many of the world’s leading companies. After adding Enwisen, HR service delivery will become a new strategic component of the Lawson Human Capital Management (HCM) System, giving Lawson one of the broadest solution sets targeted at the HCM software market. The all-cash transaction of $70 million is subject to customary regulatory approvals and approval by Enwisen’s shareholders. The agreement also includes a contingent earnout payment of $5 million cash if certain conditions have been satisfied as of June 30, 2012. Lawson expects the acquisition to close by Dec. 31, 2010.

Based in Novato, Calif., privately owned Enwisen has approximately 260 customers, including many in the Fortune 1000. The Enwisen AnswerSource HR Service Delivery suite helps companies transform and improve their delivery of HR services using fewer resources and lowering costs. Although many companies have implemented self-service HR software in their organizations, Enwisen further reduces the administrative burden on HR teams by giving managers, employees and HR customer service reps (CSRs) easy access to the information they need via a web-based portal and knowledgebase rich in personalized, relevant HR content. Enwisen solutions can also deliver significant cost savings for customers, whether implemented as a standalone solution or as part of broader HR transformation.

The Enwisen AnswerSource suite includes:

  • HR Knowledge Base/Portal – is a single point of access that delivers personalized HR content, including employee and manager policies, benefit information, handbooks and other essential HR information in two-clicks or less, and integrated with self-service transactions. This makes it easier for employees to find the right information in one place and answer their own HR questions up to 90 percent of the time without HR intervention.
  • Shared Services (HR Case Management) – is an HR case management solution that integrates with the personalized knowledgebase and allows CSRs to achieve more than 90 percent first call resolution; also allows employers to manage higher call volumes with significantly fewer CSRs.
  • Onboarding/Offboarding – provides a rich, personalized new-hire experience that increases employee engagement and retention while streamlining costs and processes. This solution also provides tours and workflows to help employees through transitions such as starting or ending their jobs with a company. It also allows for more robust content such as video to help bring new employees onboard more effectively.
  • Total Rewards – provides a comprehensive, online view of an employee’s total reward and compensation package. This includes modeling tools that allows employees to conduct a variety of “what if” scenarios relating to their compensation. It also allows the employer to help employees better understand the company’s total financial commitment to them, which can help improve employee retention and participation in voluntary saving programs such as 401(k) and employee stock purchase programs.

Enwisen has been a Lawson strategic partner since 2008. Through the existing partnership, Lawson has packaged and sold the AnswerSource products to Lawson customers, resulting in these products already working in tandem with Lawson HR solutions. After the acquisition is complete, the Lawson Human Capital Management system will include Human Resource Management, Talent Management, Workforce Management and the new component, HR Service Delivery. The HR Service Delivery solutions can be purchased and implemented independently or as part of the total Lawson HCM suite. Lawson is committed to current Enwisen customers no matter what HR information system solution a customer is using. Lawson also plans to maintain, enhance and market the Enwisen HR Service Delivery suite to the Enwisen customer base and future customers who may be running varied HRIS platforms.

This acquisition supports Lawson’s growth strategy by adding a new set of proven products and services for customers in one of the company’s fastest growing markets. With more than 1,000 customers using Lawson’s Human Capital Management products, HCM is a significant component of Lawson’s business. It is also a key growth market that the company is targeting with new solutions like Lawson Talent Management, Lawson Workforce Management and now HR Service Delivery.

“Companies want to transform how HR services are delivered to their employees, simplify these services and reduce the costs associated with them,” said Larry Dunivan, senior vice president of Human Capital Management products for Lawson. “This acquisition extends the level and quality of self-service capabilities. It delivers greater value to the employee as well as the employer. At the same time, Enwisen customers will benefit from Lawson’s strength, leadership and commitment to advancing HR service delivery solutions as a key component of HR transformation.”

Workforce empowerment should be a priority for businesses if they want to retain top talent and stay competitive as the market recovers, according to a new white paper from talent management software provider Cornerstone OnDemand.  “The Empowered Workforce: Crucial to Success in the New Economy” explores the notion of empowerment – what it means for employees, why it matters for the bottom line, and how organizations can leverage learning and HR strategies to foster employee empowerment.

“Closing the empowerment gap is about providing employees with the tools they need to learn and grow, encouraging them to make their own decisions and enabling them to contribute to the success of the business,” said Charles Coy, Director of Product Marketing for Cornerstone OnDemand.  “Empowerment also is a key driver of engagement, which can result in higher customer satisfaction, increased productivity, improved retention and a boosted bottom line.”

Research from the Gallup Organization shows that companies that had higher-than-average employee engagement also had 27 percent higher profits, 50 percent higher sales and 50 percent higher customer loyalty.

“Ultimately, every company wants employees who are engaged in their work and empowered to succeed in their roles,” said Nina Ramsey, Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources for Kelly Services, a leading provider of global workforce management services.  “Our customers want to work with front-line people who are fully capable of meeting their needs and are committed to delivering excellent service.  It’s Kelly’s job to prepare our employees and ensure they are equipped to make key decisions that will help create loyal customers and, in turn, impact the success and profitability of our company.”

HRchitect featured Taleo in our release of The Suite Life of Integrated Talent Management and also includes them in our list of top Talent Acquisition Systems vendors that businesses should consider. Kevin Marasco, VP Brand Marketing with Taleo appeared on the HRchitect WebMingle on November 6, 2009. HRchitect attended the 2010 TaleoWorld conference and HRchitect’s Matt Lafata, one of the industry’s leading talent management systems analysts, attended Taleo’s annual Sales and Services meeting in early 2010.

Taleo Corporation (NASDAQ: TLEO), the leading provider of on-demand talent management solutions, today announced high customer satisfaction for its Talent Management software suite, its service and support, and the access it provides to customers and partners through Taleo’s Talent Grid™ Cloud services community. Taleo customers provided these responses across two recent surveys: the Taleo Value and Customer Satisfaction Study by CedarCrestone, 2010, and the Talent Management Systems Customer Satisfaction 2011 report by Bersin & Associates.

These surveys determined a correlation between increased levels of satisfaction and broader product usage over the customer lifecycle with Taleo. For example, the Cedar Crestone survey found that customers using both Taleo Performance Management and Recruiting products are more likely to have increased quality of hires with significantly higher employee retention rates. Further, comments from the survey of more than 250 Taleo customers include:

“The knowledge and expertise found with the Taleo staff is outstanding. They are excellent business partners in helping us achieve our business goals.”

  • “Taleo is very responsive to questions and issues. The service we receive is of the highest quality.”
  • “I have been impressed with the timely response we receive when we have a question, and the willingness to find a solution to meet our needs.”
  • “Taleo gets it! They have the right product offerings to meet our business and strategic goals. They provide excellent support and they give us the opportunity to partner with other customers to share best practices.”
  • “Taleo is a mature company with excellent technology and an aggressive product roadmap. They have the full suite of Talent Management products to support our move to a single platform.”

“I have been doing surveys for over 25 years and it’s refreshing to see an energized and engaged customer base provide a 55% response level, making these results truly representative of Taleo’s customer base,” said Alexia Martin, Director of Research & Analytics at CedarCrestone. “While some customers had constructive criticism, by far customer responses indicated a high level of satisfaction and appreciation for Taleo’s products and services.”

The Bersin report which rates Taleo for outperforming in delivering customer satisfaction, cites that customers are not interested in point solutions and are migrating to integrated suite solutions that align with their talent strategies.

With the October 1 acquisition of Learn.com, also rated as outperforming in the Bersin analysis, Taleo is the only public company to offer best-in-class solutions across the critical components of a talent-optimized organization — recruiting, performance management, compensation and learning to its customers and their broader ecosystem of customers, suppliers, partners and resellers.

“Taleo’s ability to outperform in delivering customer satisfaction this year demonstrates the company’s continued focus on service and support during rapid growth,” said Josh Bersin, President and CEO, Bersin & Associates. “The company has demonstrated the ability to innovate, expand its market presence, and still stay focused on customer success.”

Other benefits of Taleo’s customer engagement focus include:

  • Taleo enterprise customers surveyed are seeing the equivalent of a total return on investment of $4.7 million, factoring in: process savings as well as savings from a 14% decrease in time to hire and 10% reduction in cost of hiring.
  • Customers using both Taleo Recruiting™ and Taleo Performance™ report 10% better quality in their hires (67% vs. 57%) and 38% better employee retention (62% compared with 24%).
  • Taleo enjoys more than a 95% annual customer renewal rate. The survey found a correlation between increased levels of satisfaction with each additional year of partnership with Taleo. Customers that have been using Taleo solutions for three or more years are 5% more satisfied than companies that have been with Taleo for less than a year.

“We have had a phenomenal year due to our close partnership with our customers, helping them gain a competitive advantage through better Talent Intelligence. This year’s momentum is an indication that enterprises are responding positively to our offerings and our role as a trusted advisor,” said Michael Gregoire, Chairman and CEO of Taleo. “We are dedicated to our customers’ success and will continue to provide value, maintain impeccable service and offer new ways to help them grow through our talent management solutions.”

Epicor to Acquire Spectrum Human Resource Systems Corporation…from Epicor

December 13, 2010

Cloud and Premise-Based HRMS Solution Broadens Next-Generation ERP Suite; Combined Experience and Platform to Deliver True International HCM Offering

If you are looking for a new Talent Acquisition System, Talent Management System, or any HR system, talk to HRchitect first. HRchitect has unparalleled knowledge of the HR and Talent Management vendor community and can save you time and money in selection and implementation. Simply put, do not invest in any kind of HR technology without consulting with the experts first. HRchitect is always available to help!

Epicor Software Corporation (NASDAQ: EPIC), a leading provider of enterprise business software solutions to the midmarket and Global 1000 companies, today announced it has agreed to acquire privately held SPECTRUM Human Resource Systems Corporation based in Denver, Colorado for approximately $16 million in cash, subject to certain closing adjustments. The acquisition is expected to close by December 31, 2010.

With approximately 100 employees, over 430 direct customers (an additional 1,800 through OEM relationships), and projected full-year 2010 revenues of approximately $14 million, Spectrum’s best-in-class Web-based human resource and talent management solutions will be the core of the newly formed Epicor Human Capital Management (HCM) group. The acquisition broadens Epicor’s position as a leading provider of complete end-to-end enterprise business solutions to the manufacturing, distribution, retail, hospitality and services sector, with the addition of end-to-end HRMS. Epicor does not expect the acquisition to have a material impact on its 2010 financial results, but does expect it to be slightly accretive to revenue and earnings beginning the first quarter of 2011.

“Spectrum is perfectly aligned with our strategy to provide comprehensive solutions and services that offer businesses both choice and flexibility; delivered on-premise, as a managed service, or in the cloud,” said George Klaus, chairman, president and CEO of Epicor. “The acquisition is an excellent fit from a technology, corporate culture, and customer service standpoint—both companies leverage the Microsoft .NET Framework, have a customer-centric focus, and deliver service from a single-point of accountability.

“The opportunity to deliver this comprehensive best-in-class HRMS creates new market opportunities both domestically and internationally. The complementary technology focus along with our commitment to service-oriented architecture (SOA) will allow us to quickly integrate the product across many of our product lines particularly Epicor 9, which will create significant cross-selling opportunities to both our ERP and HCM customers.”

Global HCM Market Opportunity in the Cloud

According to a recent report by Gartner, Inc., “The application and delivery model portfolio needs to be actively managed to enable HR organizations to align their initiatives with business objectives. Poor decisions can lead to increased operating costs jeopardizing opportunities to improve service models and strategic capability. CIOs should include HCM applications in their service-oriented architecture (SOA) plans, and HCM technology governance plans must address growing SaaS use.”

In the same report Gartner states, “HCM applications are fundamental to an organization’s business application strategy. Consequently, the evaluation, selection and implementation of the applications will have a major impact on overall business application strategy. Gartner is estimating approximately $6 billion in revenue in the HCM software market in 2010, and expects 4.5% growth during the next three years.”

With combined focus on Microsoft .NET, Web 2.0 and cloud computing technologies, and expertise in delivering world-class business solutions, Epicor and Spectrum together can deliver a solution that requires no compromises and what no other company is providing today — an end-to-end HCM solution backed by local country support, localization and language, and supporting flexible delivery options including SaaS, hosted, and on-premise.

“We are excited to join forces with Epicor and the opportunity it creates to rapidly accelerate the momentum Spectrum has built in the HCM market,” said Sybll Romley, CEO and president of Spectrum. “The economic downturn has shifted much of the focus of corporate HR from recruitment and on-boarding to talent management and employee development. With increasingly decentralized workforces, the rise of social networking, and rapidly evolving government, privacy, and regulatory compliance requirements, the value of a truly integrated HCM solution that aligns HR best practices with the overall business objectives of a company is significant.”

“Epicor’s infrastructure and global presence also provides a strong platform to expand into new markets and geographies as a best-in-class solution,” Romley stated. “Our customers will benefit from the technology and product roadmap synergy between Epicor and Spectrum, as well as having direct access to Epicor resources worldwide — which we expect will deliver even greater value to all of our customers.”

Spectrum: Comprehensive HR Functionality

Epicor plans on continuing to develop and support the Spectrum iVantage® HRIS product offering, in line with Epicor’s “protect, extend and converge” strategy. The Spectrum solution covers all aspects of an organization’s HR needs, from applicant tracking and hiring to workforce management and succession planning. The intuitive, easy to use, browser-based interface and automated workflow provide a high level of employee self-service, enabling HR professionals to reduce time consuming clerical functions and focus on developing organizational and workforce strategies that can improve the bottom line. Powerful analytics and productivity reporting tools provide a complete picture of the workforce for better strategic planning and operational alignment.

The Spectrum offering will be immediately available to Epicor customers as an “extend” component integrated with their Epicor ERP solution. A full range of delivery options will be available including on-premise, hosted/managed services, or software as a service (SaaS).

SuccessFactors Ranked #1 in Customer Satisfaction Among Enterprise Customers According to Bersin Research Study…from SuccessFactors

December 13, 2010

HRchitect featured SuccessFactors in our release of The Suite Life of Integrated Talent Management and also includes them in our list of top Talent Management Systems vendors that businesses should consider.

SuccessFactors, Inc. (Nasdaq: SFSF) announced that it has been named #1 in the enterprise segment of the annual customer satisfaction study conducted by Bersin & Associates, a world-class research and consulting firm that empowers HR organizations to drive bottom-line impact. The findings are included in Bersin & Associates’ Talent Management Systems Customer Satisfaction 2011: Executive Summary released earlier this week. The full report will be released in late December.

“Within the enterprise segment, SuccessFactors emerged as the customer satisfaction leader,” said Josh Bersin, CEO and president, Bersin & Associates. “We know that satisfaction is directly linked to service and support. Given the company’s rapid growth, achieving this level of customer satisfaction shows tremendous focus on the service dimension of its business.”

“We’re investing in customer satisfaction across our entire organization every day, from expanding our customer service operation internationally to continually improving our product,” said Dmitri Krakovsky, vice president of global products, SuccessFactors. “This recognition for customer satisfaction is particularly satisfying because over the last few years we have introduced a number of new products, including Recruiting Management, Employee Central and Calibration. It’s excellent to see that our customers are happy not just with our original product line-up, but with our overall product quality, our service, our implementation protocols and our ability to serve as strategic advisors. We use the BizX Suite ourselves to deliver on goals like ‘the customer must win’ – and these findings are great validation of our support and service.”

Bersin’s customer satisfaction methodology, now in its second year of publishing, measures four key service dimensions: product quality, implementation, service, and business partnership. SuccessFactors customers gave the company an overall satisfaction score of 4.17 on a scale of one to five, the highest of any vendor participating in the enterprise segment. The average satisfaction rating for all others in the enterprise segment was 3.76 out of five.

The results of this comprehensive study show that customer satisfaction with talent management systems is highly correlated to vendors’ capabilities as strategic business partners. The research found that customers are increasingly looking for fully integrated talent management platforms. This year more than one third of all respondents are willing to sacrifice advanced features in favor of purchasing an end-to-end system from a single vendor, up from only 14 percent last year.

GeoLearning, Inc., provider of the leading Software as a Service (SaaS) GeoMaestro Learning Management System (LMS) and comprehensive Managed Learning Services, announced today that it has been named “Best SaaS LMS” in the 2010 Best of Elearning! Reader’s Choice Awards hosted by Elearning! Magazine. The GeoMaestro LMS has taken the ”Best SaaS LMS” crown every year since the inception of the publication’s award program in 2005.

The publication asked more than 50,000 e-learning professionals to share their opinions. Ballots were cast over two months by the readers of Elearning! Magazine and e-zine, Elearning! e-newsletter and Elearning! Alert, as well as visitors to Elearning!’s website.

“The Best of Elearning! Awards program formalizes the informal word-of-mouth referrals practiced in our industry. According to our survey, 85% of professionals have personally recommended a learning solution to a colleague over the past 12 months. And, 61% agreed that award recognition impacted their buying decision,” cites Catherine Upton, group publisher of the Elearning! Media Group.

This year, the Elearning! Magazine Group received 1,730 nominations, consistent with last year’s program, making each category very competitive. “These awards continue to recognize innovation and user satisfaction across a growing number of solution providers,” cites Jerry Roche, editorial director of the Elearning! Magazine Group.

“We are just as honored now as we were six years ago when we first won this prestigious award. To be named ‘Best SaaS LMS’ for an unprecedented sixth straight time by actual LMS users validates what we do at GeoLearning, day in and day out, and is a testament to our customer dedication,” said Frank Russell, president and CEO of GeoLearning. “This award is an important measure for the products in our industry because the open vote format enables users of both the GeoLearning system and those of our competitors to cast a ballot. To repeatedly win demonstrates the ongoing usability and flexibility of our LMS and the sustainability of GeoLearning’s superior Software as a Service delivery model.”

Selected voter comments about GeoLearning and GeoMaestro were consolidated and appear in the “Best of E-Learning! Awards” issue of Elearning! Magazine (November/December 2010):

  • “Rapid deployment, ease of use, ease of access for employees, and a robust set of features make managing the learning function much easier for all involved.”
  • “Implementation is very user friendly, and training and support are outstanding.”
  • “The (GeoMaestro) Analytics & Reporting tool is a big plus, not to mention GeoLearning’s partnership.”

GeoLearning’s award-winning SaaS model means the GeoMaestro platform is delivered entirely over the Internet, eliminating all the headaches, hassles and risks associated with traditional hardware and software implementations. The Internet-hosted learning management platform enables organizations to capture, create, manage, collaborate and share knowledge to improve workforce productivity, accelerate critical business processes and drive organizational performance. It will deploy the Taleo Platform worldwide this month. Taleo’s global reach in 218 countries was a key factor in Electrocomponent’s choice of solution, with job vacancies posted in French, German, Italian, Chinese and Japanese as well as English. The Taleo solution will also allow Electrocomponents to create a single portal for all careers, increasing usability for both candidates and hiring managers as well as giving the resourcing team greater visibility of key talent metrics.

“We were impressed by the functionality of the Taleo 10 platform,” commented Jon Hull, Resourcing Director for Electrocomponents. “It is very intuitive to use, both for applicants and hiring managers, which is crucial to driving adoption of the technology internally and ensuring that potential employees are not put off halfway through the application process. Taleo will also make a big difference to our reporting metrics. We have quite a geographically diverse workforce so the ability to quickly and easily gain an insight into what is going on in a specific region will be hugely valuable, not just for the resourcing teams but throughout the business.”

“With businesses looking to put the recession behind them and put the emphasis once again on growth, we are seeing a huge demand among businesses for greater talent intelligence so that they can have insight into their work force in order to know their people and grow their business,” commented Adam Brenner, Group Vice President EMEA, Taleo. “Employers are realising that people are their biggest asset, and are investing in tools that provide them with insights to know their people and grow their business”.

WorkForce Software, the leading provider of workforce management solutions for organizations with complex labor policies and compliance concerns, today announced its inclusion on Software Magazine’s Software 500 ranking of the world’s largest software and service providers, now in its 28th year.

WorkForce Software enjoyed tremendous growth in 2009 which resulted in ranking 331 on this prestigious list.

“The 2010 Software 500 results show that revenue growth in the software and services industry was healthy, with total Software 500 revenue of $491.7 billion worldwide for 2009, representing virtually flat growth from the previous year,” says John P. Desmond, editor of Software Magazine and Softwaremag.com.

“The Software 500 helps CIOs, senior IT managers and IT staff research and create the short list of business partners,” Desmond says. “It is a quick reference of vendor viability. And the online version, to be posted soon at www.Softwaremag.com, is searchable by category, making it what we call the online catalog to enterprise software.”

The Software 500 is a revenue-based ranking of the world’s largest software and services suppliers targeting medium to large enterprises, their IT professionals, software developers and business managers involved in software and services purchasing.

The ranking is based on total worldwide software and services revenue for 2009. This includes revenues from software licenses, maintenance and support, training and software-related services and consulting. Suppliers are not ranked on their total corporate revenue, since many have other lines of business, such as hardware. The financial information was gathered by a survey prepared by King Content Co. and posted at www.Softwaremag.com, as well as from public documents.

“In our fourth consecutive year of being recognized as one of the largest technology providers by Software Magazine, I feel a great deal of pride in both the company and the team that makes it happen,” stated Kevin Choksi, president and CEO of WorkForce Software. “We continue to invest in new technologies and work closely with our clients to ensure we provide a solution that makes their jobs easier and helps organizations to better manage labor costs and their workforce.”
