1,000 Small Businesses Switched to SmartRecruiters in Less Than Seven Months…from MrTed

May 8, 2009

Web 2.0 Recruiting System Helping Small Businesses Fill More Than 10,000 Jobs

MrTed’s CEO, Jerome Ternynck will participate in the HRchitect WebMingle on May 22, 2009.

Small businesses are hiring and they’re using SmartRecruiters, the free and easy applicant tracking system (ATS) from MrTed Ltd., to do it. Seven months ago, MrTed Ltd. unveiled SmartRecruiters, a Web 2.0 recruiting application that is 100% free and designed specifically for small businesses with up to 2,500 employees. Today, MrTed announced that 1,000 small businesses have signed-up to use SmartRecruiters since launch, making it the fastest-growing ATS in the recruiting software industry.

“After finding SmartRecruiters, I‘m not sure why any business would pay to use an ATS,” said Stepheny Booker, Staffing Coordinator for Pennsylvania MENTOR. “I don’t see why I would walk away from an Applicant Tracking System like SmartRecruiters for one where I would have to pay. What’s the point when I have everything I need in SmartRecruiters?”

SmartRecruiters is a fully functional, web-based ATS that gives recruiters all the tools they need to run their businesses. Within minutes of signing-up, recruiters can post and edit job listings, rate and screen candidates, and tailor the look-and-feel of corporate career web sites—all for free from within the application. Since launching in October, MrTed has added new functionality to the system, including integrations to SimplyHired, Yahoo HotJobs and Skype for improved recruiting and candidate communications. SmartRecruiters is delivered via the software-as-a-service model, so users never pay for application hosting, installation, maintenance, upgrades, additional users or storage.

“We are blown away by the response of small businesses to the launch of SmartRecruiters,” said Jerome Ternynck, CEO at MrTed. “Currently, small businesses are using SmartRecruiters to fill more than 10,000 jobs. We are excited to offer small businesses a better and free way to manage the recruiting function, and we are humbled to find that our system is in some small way contributing to hiring and economic recovery in the small business community.”

“Launching a recruitment solution during an economic meltdown seems somewhat counterintuitive. But when you think about it, even if overall hiring is down, the number of applicants for any given position is most likely up, so companies that are hiring must exert just as much or greater effort and expense to hire the best people,” said Laurie McCabe, a small business IT expert, blogger and partner at Hurwitz & Associates. “As the economy recovers and more SMBs start hiring again, the SmartRecruiters business model has potential to disrupt the ATS market in the same way that Google has done in many areas.”

The group of 1,000 small businesses now using SmartRecruiters includes companies from 45 different industries and countries, though approximately 90% of the businesses are in the US where unemployment is way up. Small business recruiters have been inundated with resumes from job seekers and while hiring is down, small businesses still need a system to manage the heightened level of activity, and many are using SmartRecruiters to prepare for hiring as the economy improves.

MrTed Stuns Recruiting Software Market with Breakout 2008 Performance…from MrTed

March 6, 2009

Talent Acquisition Leader Reports Record Sales and Profits, As Customers Look to Lower Costs Associated With the Still-Critical Process of Employee Recruiting

HRchitect includes MrTed in our list of top Talent Acquisition Systems vendors that businesses should consider.

Cost-cutting companies in 2008 swarmed to recruiting software leader MrTed, resulting in a sharp increase in both sales and profits for the award-winning provider of talent management solutions. For the year, MrTed grew sales by 30%, while profits follow with 30% year-over-year. The dramatic spike in both areas comes amid a rise in global unemployment and a widespread slowdown in the business software market. Despite the sagging economy, many enterprises and government agencies continue to recruit and hire; only now they are looking to do so more cost-effectively than in years past. For these companies that means automating key recruiting processes and deploying software that is inexpensive to deploy as well as to maintain – each of which is an area of strength for MrTed.

Hiring Less Expensively
A pioneer in delivering software-as-a-service talent management solutions and the largest non-U.S. recruiting software vendor, MrTed is expert at helping businesses lower recruiting costs and improve recruiting efficiencies. The company’s MrTedTalentLink solution is used by hundreds of large enterprises and numerous Fortune 1000 organizations. And late last year MrTed launched SmartRecruiters, a 100% free applicant tracking system (ATS) for the small and midsized business (SMB) community. MrTed’s wide variety of web-based recruiting applications automate the key business processes that drive employee hiring, and its solutions are delivered via the on-demand model, which significantly lowers the cost of hiring for companies and eliminates the need for internal resources to manage the recruiting system.

“The idea that companies are hiring and therefore need recruiting systems seems counterintuitive in a time of layoffs, but progressive enterprises clearly recognize that finding and hiring the best people—particularly in a down economy—is integral to a successful business recovery,” said Jerome Ternynck, CEO at MrTed. “While other talent management vendors tinker with performance and payroll applications of diminishing value, MrTed remains committed to delivering best-of-breed talent acquisitions software that help companies lower recruiting costs so they can grow their businesses. Our record growth in the past year is a strong indicator that MrTed has identified the correct balance between systematic collaboration with users, resource allocation to fuel product innovation, and the regular release of stand-out talent management applications.”

Key Growth Areas
Growth was the theme across MrTed’s business in 2008. Multiple segments of the company, including its enterprise and channel sales businesses, grew rapidly. At the same time, MrTed expanded its reach into a new market with the introduction of SmartRecruiters, a product designed specifically for U.S. SMBs. Following are a few of the highlights:

• Fortune 1000 business on the rise – MrTed continued to grow its base of Fortune 1000 customers last year, as more industry leaders chose MrTedTalentLink to ensure the highest-quality candidate experience and optimum recruiter effectiveness. MrTed’s solutions allow enterprise organizations to lower the cost of, rather than cutting back the process of, tracking, assessing and managing the candidates who will meet talent requirements across the business.

• More RPOs choose MrTed – Several recruitment process outsourcer (RPO) firms adopted or expanded their use of MrTedTalentLink, based on the strength of its cost/benefit rationalization combined with its power to help RPOs replicate processes across widely varying, customer-defined recruiting continuums. The solution can accommodate the broad array of technologies, methodologies and reporting which are often dictated by RPO’s diverse base of client companies. RPOs praise MrTedTalentLink’s ‘one-to-many’ infrastructure for enabling the cost-cutting and economies of scale that deliver financial benefit. Chris Hornsby, business solutions manager at RPO, Ochre House, said: “We wanted to be in a position to offer our clients a tailored solution underpinned by our in-house consulting, implementation and ongoing support capability. MrTed provides us the ability to offer such solutions.”

• SMBs take notice – Over 400 SMBs have signed-up to use MrTed’s feature-rich, Open SaaS, pay-per-use ATS, SmartRecruiters, since the product was launched in October 2008. Targeted to the six million U.S. businesses with as many as 2,500 employees, SmartRecruiters serves the new generation of web-savvy SMB recruiters with a free, easy-to-use, open architecture. MrTed’s SMB users understand the value gap between the practical, efficient SmartRecruiters approach and the licensing and hosting fee burden of the traditional ATS. “SmartRecruiters is designed to disrupt the ATS market in the same way Google has with many of its free services,” said Peter Gold, founder at Hire Strategies, a UK-based a consulting business that helps large employers maximize social media as part of their talent management strategy. “The launch of SmartRecruiters, and its instant success in the market, demonstrates MrTed’s savvy grasp of SMB needs.”

“Undoubtedly these are challenging times for businesses, if enterprises ever were going to rationalize their recruitment function, now is the good time to do, and on that subject we are extremely optimistic,” noted Ternynck. “The combination of strong domain expertise, our best-of-breed Talent Acquisition Solution for Enterprise and RPO market and our exciting new solution for the SMB market has MrTed well-positioned to support clients to standardize and automate processes to increase the efficiency and reduce costs”.

Free Applicant Tracking System Shakes Up Recruiting Software Market…from MrTed

February 4, 2009

350+ Small Businesses Sign-up for SmartRecruiters ATS Within 90 Days of Launch

HRchitect includes MrTed in our list of top Talent Management Systems vendors that businesses should consider. SmartRecruiters also participated in the HRchitect Beauty Pageant on mid-market Talent Acquisition Systems on January 16, 2009.

Easy and affordable recruiting for small businesses was the mission of MrTed Ltd., a recognized leader in talent acquisition solutions, when, in October 2008, it launched SmartRecruiters, a 100% free applicant tracking system (ATS). Today, nearly three months later, SmartRecruiters is the fastest-growing ATS on the market.

SmartRecruiters combines elements of the Open Source and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) concepts. Like Open Source products, SmartRecruiters’ is free and features are determined according to the ‘wisdom of the community.’ And, as with other Web 2.0 solutions, SmartRecruiters is offered via the SaaS model, so users never pay for application hosting, maintenance or upgrades.

“Applicant tracking systems are important bread–and-butter applications for corporate HR managers and recruiters. However, they’re typically out of reach for small to mid-sized companies,” said Madeline Laurano, analyst for Bersin & Associates, a research and advisory firm focused on enterprise learning and talent management. “MrTed is taking a bold and innovative approach by providing small companies with a zero-cost solution from a reliable solution provider.”

Rapid Adoption

Intent on disrupting the stagnant ATS market, MrTed unveiled SmartRecruiters at the ERE Fall Expo in Hollywood, Florida. Relying solely on viral marketing tactics to promote the product, and targeting a small business market desperate for recruiting software that was both innovative and inexpensive, SmartRecruiters’ success in this short time has been nothing short of remarkable. Already, more than 350 small businesses have signed-up to use SmartRecruiters, which is nearly twice as much as the largest vendors in the industry have managed for the same period.

“We looked at dozens of web-based applicant tracking systems and found the ease-of-use and features in SmartRecruiters comparable to other recruiting systems costing hundreds of dollars per month,” said David Blankenship, Chief Operating Officer at Infoswell Media. “We were ready to start recruiting with SmartRecruiters in under one hour and now we post all our jobs using this innovative system. The available jobs page is accessed directly from our company web site and each of my hiring managers can review and rate the qualifications of every candidate applying for one of our posted positions.”

SmartRecruiters is the only fully functional, 100% free SaaS ATS to connect users with complementary recruiting services, such as job postings and background checks. Since launching in October, SmartRecruiters has enabled access to a network of free worldwide job-search sites through its partnership with eQuest, including SimplyHired, Indeed, GoogleBase, CampusAve, Resumes2Work, Kijiji and Recruit.net.

“After finding SmartRecruiters, I’m not sure why any business would pay to use an ATS,” said Stepheny Booker, staffing coordinator at Pennsylvania MENTOR, a trusted provider of life-enhancing services to hundreds of individuals and their families across the state of Pennsylvania. “I used another ATS system prior to implementing SmartRecruiters, but when I compared the systems, I found SmartRecruiters could easily handle our large volume of job openings and resumes. Of course the fact that SmartRecruiters is 100% free made the decision to replace the previous ATS that much easier.”

Why SmartRecruiters

Still in beta, SmartRecruiters is designed specifically for small business recruiters and hiring managers who, until now, have been forced to use expensive enterprise systems that are complicated and difficult to implement. By contrast, SmartRecruiters is easy to use, deploys in minutes, and is 100% free. As such, MrTed is eliminating a five-figure annual recruiting software expense for small businesses—and putting paid-for ATS vendors on-notice.

Likewise, SmartRecruiters works instantly, so users avoid lengthy and expensive implementation cycles typically associated with enterprise ATS deployments. And on-demand access to complementary recruiting services through SmartRecruiters saves time and streamlines hiring processes. In general, small businesses can expect to reduce recruiting costs by anywhere from $10,000 – $50,000 annually by using SmartRecruiters versus a competitive system.

“We are humbled by the response to SmartRecruiters and overjoyed to be helping more than 350 small businesses transform their recruiting processes,” said Jerome Ternynck, CEO at MrTed. “That SmartRecruiters has become the fastest-growing ATS in only three months is testament to the great need in the market for something new. We will continue to improve the application through input from the community and the addition of new services, and we are optimistic that SmartRecruiters will be the number one ATS in the industry by the end of the year.”
