JobApp, the talent management solution that makes it easier and faster for companies to hire the best person for the right job, right now, has changed the game for how talent management companies represent themselves.

JobApp’s recently unveiled new website applies the bright, bold look and feel of classic graphic novels, and it features superheroes to engage site visitors. The new JobApp website also reveals a new, streamlined organization and nomenclature for the company’s products and services.

The new look and feel embodies and evokes how JobApp’s technology and services help companies quickly, seamlessly and cost-effectively find, assess, hire, onboard and engage the best person for the right job; eliminate HR paperwork; efficiently and confidently meet hiring compliance and tax credit concerns; and effortlessly employ performance management to determine a new employee’s best next move in the company.

“Since our inception, JobApp has been known as an industry leader and innovator, with our unique phone and online candidate-application systems, our at-a-glance five-star candidate rating system, and our seamless technology for streamlining and automating HR processes,” said Blake Helppie, JobApp CEO.

“Today,” Helppie said, “we’re upping the ante on all of that. We’re presenting a new way of representing talent management to the world — as being bold, heroic and powerful.”

“Just as life is for the companies we represent in myriad lines of business, the world of talent management is fast-paced, exciting and constantly moving,” Helppie said. “We wanted a new look and feel that would project that sense of speed, power and dexterity.”

The new organization of JobApp’s products and services more logically follows the HR processes of the employee life cycle. Most noticeably on the new site, a primary navigation window for Solutions includes second-level windows for FindHire,ManageTraining and The Salaried Solution.

Retail Hiring Down in April; Partly a Result of Early Warm Weather Hiring in February…from Kronos

Kronos Incorporated today announced the May release of the Kronos® Retail Labor Index™, a family of metrics and indices that characterize the current state of the demand and supply sides of the labor market within the U.S. retail sector. The May report includes data for April 2012. The analysis and write-up are prepared by Macroeconomic Advisers LLC, and are available on the Kronos Retail Labor Index website.

News Facts

The Kronos Retail Labor Index: (This index is defined as the ratio of hires to applications within a given month, expressed as a percentage. A level of 3.0 percent means that for every 100 applications received, three hires occurred). The Kronos Retail Labor Index edged down to 3.8 percent in April from a March level that was revised three-tenths lower. Even with declines over the last two months, the Retail Labor Index remains above levels seen over the last few years, averaging 4.0 percent over the first four months of this year, up from 3.5 percent last year.

Retail Hiring Level: The retailers representing 18,362 distributed locations across the U.S. that make up the Kronosdata sample made 31,862 hires (seasonally adjusted) in April down from 33,209 in March. The two months of declining numbers followed a strong, nearly 11 percent gain in hires in February to the highest level since October 2008. The February reading may have been in part boosted by unseasonably mild winter weather. If the mild winter weather led firms to pull hires forward into February, this could explain some of the weakness seen in subsequent months.

Retail Applications Level: The number of applications received by retailers included in the Kronos sample rose 1.6 percent to 843,653 in April from an upwardly revised 830,668 in March, all on a seasonally adjusted basis. Even with the small gain, the level of applications in April was down roughly 145,500 from its level one year ago.

Retail 60-Day Retention Rate: The 60-day retention rate, measured as the number of hires who remain employed for at least the first 60 days divided by the total number of hires made in that month, rose to 84.0 percent (seasonally adjusted) in December 2011 from 83.0 percent in November 2011. (Note: There is a four-month lag on this indicator as two months are required to measure whether a hire remained employed for 60 days and Kronos customers have two months to return data on separations.)

Supporting Quotes

Chris Varvares, senior managing director and co-founder, Macroeconomic Advisers
“The Kronos Retail Labor Index edged down two-tenths to a still solid 3.8 percent in April, reflecting a moderate decline in hires and a small gain in applications. This was the second consecutive decline in hires, following a strong, nearly 11 percent gain in February. Hiring in February may have been boosted by the unseasonably warm weather experienced this winter, pulling some spring hires forward and helping to explain some of the subsequent declines in March and April. In addition, readings on retail sales and chain-store sales through March were strong and above expectations, suggesting business conditions for retail firms are improving. We look for the pace of hiring at retail firms to pick up in the coming months as this sector continues to strengthen.”

SilkRoad technology, inc., a leading provider of social talent management solutions, has been named a finalist in the 2012 Illinois Technology Association (ITA) CityLIGHTS Awards in the Rising Star category. In this category, SilkRoad has been recognized for its innovation in products and business approach, which has led to its growth as a leading competitor in the Human Capital Management (HCM) marketplace.

As the only cloud-based HCM provider of a full suite of talent management solutions, SilkRoad expects rapid growth in 2012. SilkRoad was founded on the idea that companies can build a self-motivating culture by empowering employees with the tools needed to drive their own careers and work relationships. In 2011, as the Human Capital Management market continued to accelerate, SilkRoad expanded its global footprint with additional offices in London, France and Japan; deployed HRMS solution, SilkRoad HeartBeat, to a record number of new customers; announced a revolutionary new social matrix solution, SilkRoad Point; and welcomed almost 400 new customers.

“The talent management marketplace is the next battleground for competitiveness,” said Flip Filipowski, executive chairman and CEO of SilkRoad technology. “The recent acquisitions of cloud-based talent management providers by the SAPs and Oracles of the world prove this, and we are proud at SilkRoad to be continuing down a path of innovation. By enhancing and building upon our award-winning product suite with platforms like Point, we will continue to grow our footprint in Illinois, nationally and globally.”

The ITA received a record-setting number of nominations this year, with the ITA’s panel of judges selecting the top entries in each of nine award categories. Public voting is online now through April 25. Winners are determined by a blended score based equally on public voting and the judges’ panel in all categories except the CityLIGHTS award, which is selected by the ITA Board of Directors, and will be announced at the CityLIGHTS Awards Gala on Thursday, May 10, 2012.

“It was no easy feat for the judges to determine the finalists for each award,” said ITA CEO Fred Hoch. “The past 12 months have been a time of unprecedented growth, accomplishments and innovation in Illinois, and this energy is reflected in the quantity and quality of CityLIGHTS awards nominees.”

Kronos Retail Labor Index Shows Fewer People Applying for Retail Jobs…from Kronos

April 6, 2012

Kronos Incorporated today announced the April release of the Kronos® Retail Labor Index™, a family of metrics and indices that characterize the current state of the demand and supply sides of the labor market within the U.S. retail sector. The April report includes data for March 2012.

The Kronos Retail Labor Index was down slightly in March to a still solid 4.3 percent. This was the second consecutive reading above 4.0 percent and only the third reading of 4.0 or higher since October 2008.

Retail Hiring Level: The retailers representing 18,362 distributed locations across the U.S. that make up the Kronos data sample made 33,684 hires (seasonally adjusted) in March 2012, down 11.6 percent from February. While the level of hires in March was below the recent pace of hires (roughly 35,000 over the last six months), it was broadly consistent with the 2011 average and remains above levels seen in 2009 and 2010.

Retail Applications Level: The number of applications received by retailers included in the Kronos sample fell 10.0 percent to 784,941 in March 2012 from an upwardly revised 872,341 in February 2012, all on a seasonally adjusted basis. The level of applications in March was down nearly 250,000 from its level one year ago, when applications reached a near record high. Applications have been trending downward since the second half of last year, and the sharp decline in March brought them to their lowest level since September 2007, just prior to the onset of the recession.

Retail 60-Day Retention Rate: The 60-day retention rate, measured as the number of hires who remain employed for at least the first 60 days divided by the total number of hires made in that month, rose to 83.7 percent (seasonally adjusted) in November 2011 from 82.2 in October 2011.  (Note: There is a four-month lag on this indicator as two months are required to measure whether a hire remained employed for 60 days and Kronos customers have two months to return data on separations.)

Supporting Quotes

Chris Varvares, senior managing director and co-founder, Macroeconomic Advisers
“The Kronos Retail Labor Index edged down one-tenth to a still solid 4.3 percent in March, reflecting sharp declines in both hires made and applications received. However, the decline in hires this month followed a strong increase in February to the highest level since October 2008. The strength in February hiring may have contributed to the March drop in applications, as job seekers who found employment did not apply for additional positions in March. In addition, with overall labor market conditions  improving, potential applicants are likely seeking job opportunities in sectors outside of retail, consistent with the recent declining trend in applications for retail positions.”

SilkRoad technology, inc., a leading provider of social talent management solutions, today released its applicant tracking data that revealed the top sources of hire in a report, Recruiting Marketing Effectiveness: Meaningful Metrics Straight from the Source.  Using automated data from SilkRoad’s OpenHire, its applicant tracking system (ATS), SilkRoad aggregated information from more than 700 of its customers.

“The goal of this research is to help companies reveal new ways for their Organizations to better optimize recruitment advertising budgets, and discover new sources of hire that other companies are successfully utilizing,” said Thomas Boyle, director of product marketing, SilkRoad technology.  “The information in this report will aid HR in becoming more savvy and strategic in its recruitment marketing.”

With millions of dollars in job advertising spend annually, talent acquisition professionals need access to factual information on the most effective sources of recruitment marketing to build strategies that will attract top talent and convert it into hires.  This report provides insights into how forward-looking organizations focused on attracting the right candidates can strategically spend recruitment dollars to maximize return on investment.  In Recruiting Marketing Effectiveness: Meaningful Metrics Straight from the Source, the most significant findings were:

  • Of external sources, 94 percent of interviews and 86 percent of hires came from online sources
  • External and internal sources result in about the same share of interviews (43.5 and 46.7 percent, respectively)
  • 63 percent of hires came from internal sources, which were more than twice the share of external sources (27 percent)
  • 15.6 percent of interviews and 11.6 percent of hires, among internal and external online sources, come from company career sites
  • 36 percent of all external interviews and almost 34 percent of all external hires came from job search engines, proving far more effective than job boards
  • Indeed is the leading external source of hires, providing 72 percent more hires than the next largest source.
  • In six of seven job categories, internal sources were more likely than others to deliver the largest share of both interviews and hires in every sector (Healthcare, Financial Services, Customer Service, Administrative Services, Sales, Engineering and IT)

Combined, the data in the report gave insight into 222,308 job postings, 9.3 million applicants and 94,155 hires during the year of 2011.  To learn more about the top 10 online recruitment marketing sources, download the full report here.

If you are looking for a new Talent Management System, or any HR system, don’t rely solely on “recommendations” or published reports. Do yourself a huge favor and talk to HRchitect first. After 15 years, HRchitect has unparalleled knowledge of the HR and Talent Management vendor community and can save you time and money in selection and implementation. iCIMS, a leading provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) talent acquisition software solutions for growing businesses, released its Q1 results, reporting major client growth in small business and mid-market segments. This growth is indicative of the expansion forecasted in early 2012 when the company announced that it secured a minority investment from Susquehanna Growth Equity, LLC.

New subscriptions grew by more than 100% versus Q1 2011, with particular strength in new customer acquisitions in the healthcare, energy, and retail verticals. Results compared with Q1 2011 metrics are as follows:

• A 71% increase in healthcare clients signed
• A four-fold increase in energy clients signed
• Double the number of retail customers signed

Some top names among iCIMS’ new clients include:  Hooters of America, LLC, Therapeutic Alternatives, TAS Energy Inc., and Sunbelt Rentals, Inc. Another noteworthy achievement was marked by a 55% increase in new small business customer acquisitions and a 50% gain in mid-market clients as compared to 2011.

To accommodate the needs of iCIMS’ growing client base, in Q1 iCIMS released version 11.3 of its flagship product, the Talent Platform. This new release features Social Apply and Social Resume, which allow candidates to apply for positions using their social media profiles and enables recruiters to view candidates’ dynamic resume details within the applicant tracking solution.  When paired with iCIMS’ Social Recruit technology, clients can easily post jobs to hundreds of social media outlets with a click of a button.  Additionally, iCIMS rolled out a newly integrated I-9 and E-Verify solution for clients leveraging its Onboard product. The technology powers automated and paperless preparation, signing, management, auditing, and storage of I-9s forms, as well as automatic E-Verify submission.

To support its aggressive growth trajectory, the company plans to invest further in marketing, product development, and personnel. In Q1 alone, iCIMS filled more than 30 positions, a 60% increase from Q1 2011 and a 14% increase from the staff count in Q4 2011. The new hires are concentrated in the company’s technology, marketing, and account management departments. To accommodate current and future staff as well as the organization’s expected growth plans, iCIMS relocated the corporate headquarters to a larger, “Class A” facility in nearby Matawan, NJ in March.

“The impressive stats that we have attained in quarter one are not just great start to the New Year, but are also an amazing introduction to our new home here in Matawan,” said Colin Day, Chief Executive Officer, iCIMS, Inc. “The competitive landscape has changed, but our results this quarter illustrate clients’ continued interest in easy-to-use, best-of-breed Talent Acquisition software that is backed by a commitment to an excellent customer experience. With a start like this, we’re optimistic this will be iCIMS’ best year yet,” Day concluded.
