Company recognized for outstanding achievement in design of new marketing kit and print advertisements

Kenexa participated in the Talent Management Systems panel and the Talent Acquisition Systems panel on June 10, 2009 as part of theHRshow event. Ron Hanscome, VP of Product Strategy with Kenexa appeared on the HRchitect WebMingle on June 26, 2009. Kenexa (NASDAQ: KNXA), a global provider of business solutions for human resources, was awarded two awards from American Design Awards for its efforts in rebranding the organization. American Design Awards is a business dedicated to providing fair and ethical platforms for graphic and web designers with varying experience levels and disciplines to compete on, while providing them a global audience to showcase their talents to. The American Design Awards holds two semi-annual contests, and judges each submission on creativity, effectiveness, practicality and ethics.
Kenexa placed first in the Marketing Kit Design category, which included newly branded presentation folders and marketing collateral, and second in the Print Advertisement category, which included the Kenexa Wright Brothers ad that visualizes the new brand positioning formula i X e = s.
The new brand, released June 1, 2009, includes a complete overhaul of all marketing materials, signage, advertising and communications. The new brand is based on helping companies identify the right individuals and create the right environments to enhance individual and organizational performance.
Kenexa is the only company in the HR marketplace that has the tools, services and technology to multiply business success. Kenexa’s formula for business success, i X e = s, requires two elements—the individual and the environment. Kenexa believes that when you multiply the right individual by the right environment, success is inevitable. The multiplication sign in the formula for success is the secret to unlocking human potential. It is the factor that separates Kenexa from every other company in the marketplace. While other companies have solutions that affect the “i” or the “e,” only Kenexa can multiply them to maximize business outcomes. One of the ways the company delivers on the “X” is through Extreme Service.
“We are honored to be recognized by American Design Awards,” said Rudy Karsan, CEO, Kenexa. “These awards are a tribute to the talent and expertise of our marketing group. The new rebranding effort underscores Kenexa’s broader mission statement of transforming the global workforce. With Kenexa’s rebrand, we want to communicate clearly that our goal is to help put people around the world in the right jobs, and to create work environments that maximize their potential. We know that when people are in jobs they love and in environments that maximize their potential, they are not only more productive employees, they are more productive individuals.”
All entries are judged independently taking into account experience level and date of design. Other variables including popularity of client, name of design firm and other accolades previously attained are not considered, ensuring a fair and balanced competition.

U.S. Employee Confidence Rose 5.3% since March
HRchitect featured Kenexa in our May 2008 release of The Suite Life of Integrated Talent Management and also includes them in our list of top Talent Acquisition Systems and top Talent Management Systems vendors that businesses should consider. Kenexa participated in the Talent Management Systems panel and the Talent Acquisition Systems panel on June 10, 2009 as part of theHRshow event. Kenexa® (Nasdaq: KNXA), a global provider of business solutions for human resources, today announced the results of its employee confidence study, a quarterly measure of worker opinions and component of the forthcoming Kenexa Composite.
Employee confidence has been found to relate to multiple economic and business performance outcomes at the individual, organizational, industry and country levels as well as being predictive of consumer confidence.
A high level of employee confidence is achieved when employees perceive their organization as being effectively managed and competitively positioned, and believe they have a promising future with their organization, job security, and skills that are attractive to other employers. Employee confidence influences individual behavior and has implications for organizational performance and economic conditions.
In June 2009, the global employee confidence index score was 98.9. Brazil (107.2), China (102.3), France (101.4) and Russia (100.9) had the highest levels of employee confidence, while Italy (97.8), Spain (96.0) and Japan (93.8) had the lowest levels. The United States’ employee confidence index score was 98.9.
Jeffrey Saltzman, principal at Kenexa, stated that, “In the second quarter of 2009, employees from all of the studied countries reported an increase in employee confidence scores, becoming more positive, with the exception of Japan. China improved the most since the first quarter of 2009 (up 12.5 points). Interestingly, it was recently reported that China’s economy grew by 7.9% in the second quarter, evaluating this as a surprisingly strong showing given the world economic crisis.”
Saltzman continued, “While most countries improved in the second quarter over the first, we saw especially strong gains in Russia, Germany, France and India. The countries with the smallest gains were Japan, Spain, Canada and the U.K. These rankings also match a recent report; there is exceptionally high unemployment in Spain; the U.K.’s economy is posting steep drops, which are dashing hopes for a quick recovery; and, Germany’s economic performance implies that the recession there could end sooner than expected.”
What had been the lowest scoring component of confidence, job security and having a promising future, has now been replaced by a worker’s ability to find employment elsewhere. Saltzman continued, “This illustrates that the notion of a jobless recovery is very much in alignment with how the typical employee feels.”
There was an increase in employees who reported that their economic well-being will improve over the next six months. However, there are still quite a few who are worried about their current financial situation to a “very great extent,” with 35% of U.S. employees reporting concern, down from 40% in December 2008.

Younger Workers Report Higher Levels of Employee Confidence
HRchitect featured Kenexa in our May 2008 release of The Suite Life of Integrated Talent Management and also includes them in our list of top Talent Acquisition Systems and top Talent Management Systems vendors that businesses should consider. Kenexa participated in the Talent Management Systems panel and the Talent Acquisition Systems panel on June 10, 2009 as part of theHRshow event. Ron Hanscome, VP of Product Strategy with Kenexa appeared on the HRchitect WebMingle on June 26, 2009. If you are looking for a new Talent Management System, or any HR system, talk to HRchitect first. The legend of the fountain of youth occurs in many cultures going back centuries. One aspect often associated with youthfulness is a sense of optimism about the future. The Kenexa Research Institute (KRI) asked, “Is there any evidence to support the notion that being young brings with it a sense of optimism about the future or is the notion of youthful optimism just another one of those myths with little substance?”
A recent study conducted by KRI measured Employee Confidence in the workplace by contrasting younger (18-29 year olds) and older workers’ (50+ year olds) levels of confidence. The study was conducted between June 2008 and June 2009.
A high level of Employee Confidence is achieved when an employee perceives his/her organization as being effectively managed with good business processes, competitively positioned with attractive products and believes he/she has a promising future with the organization, job security and skills attractive to other employers. Employee Confidence influences individual behavior, has implications for organizational performance and is a reflection more broadly of macro-economic conditions.
The results from a randomly selected group of more than 29,000 workers from 12 countries indicated that as of June 2009, younger employees reported higher levels of Employee Confidence. In most countries, younger employees outscored older employees in Employee Confidence by 5 to 15 percentage points.
In June 2008, the older employees in both Spain and China expressed higher levels of Employee Confidence than the younger employees did and in June 2009, both of those positions were reversed; the younger employees are now more confident.
Jeffrey Saltzman, principal at Kenexa, stated, “Prior to the current economic downturn, Chinese workers over 50 years of age expressed more confidence. According to the IMF, since 1978, China has seen annual economic growth above 9% with several years reaching 13% growth. That would mean that for the vast majority of their working lives, these older workers have experienced an economic boom with very little turbulence until this past year. The historical confidence that the long-term economic success had wrought has been eroded. The confidence pattern seen in China is looking now more like the majority of studied countries where the youth are more positive.”
For all workers studied, the current gap between the young and old employees was the largest in the United Kingdom (14 percentage points), followed by those in Japan (11 percentage points), China and Germany (10 percentage points). The smallest gap between the younger and older workers was in Brazil, Canada and India (3 percentage points).
Saltzman continued, “A typical pattern seen in employee survey responses suggests that the most positive workers, the most optimistic ones, are those newest to the organization. Typically, optimism fades after about two years. There are exceptions. There are companies that can harness the optimism employees bring with them and keep it burning over the long-term. These are the companies that will outperform their competitors.”

A growing number of customers are engaging in strategic evaluations, and we believe they will deploy more comprehensive solutions and move ahead with strategic services engagements when the economic environment improves and IT budgets are more available.”

The Company generated positive cash from operations of $7.5 million during the second quarter, which was offset primarily by capital expenditures and earn out payments associated with previous acquisitions. Deferred revenue was $42.2 million at June 30, 2009, an increase of approximately $0.8 million compared to the end of the first quarter 2009 and an increase of 9% from the end of the year ago period.
Karsan added, “Throughout the economic slowdown, Kenexa continued to focus on driving profitability and cash flow. We will continue to operate with this focus in mind, and we are also planning to selectively increase investments in R&D and sales and marketing as we currently expect the buying environment to begin improving at some point during 2010. These incremental investments will leverage those already made in the development and launch of our Kenexa 2x platform, continued enhancements to our best-in-class Kenexa Recruiter BrassRing solution, as well as our recent rebranding initiative. We believe that Kenexa has weathered the most difficult stage of the economic storm, and we remain confident in the company’s long-term market position and opportunity.”

Company Crystallizes the Expression of Its Unified Solutions Through Its New Brand Foundation — i X e = s

Kenexa (NasdaqGS:KNXA – News), a global provider of business solutions for human resources, today unveiled its new expression for communicating and delivering on its brand promise. The rebranding effort puts a new focus on its unique integrated offerings that combine employee science, technology, business process and consulting to positively impact business performance.
The formula for business success, i X e = s(TM), requires two elements — the individual and the environment. When you multiply the right individual by the right environment, success is inevitable. The multiplication sign in the formula for success is the secret to unlocking human potential. It is the factor that separates Kenexa from every other company in the marketplace. While other companies have solutions that affect the “i” or the “e,” only Kenexa can multiply them to maximize business outcomes.
The formula will be rolled out in the company’s website, collateral and other materials. Kenexa has also unveiled a modern corporate logo that reinforces its new look and feel, and emphasizes the “X” in the formula. The new logo is reinforced by the tag line: “HR Success Multiplied.”
One of the ways the company delivers on the “X” is through Extreme Service. Delivering on this requires the commitment to being accurate, timely, responsive, proactive and foremost, learning mutually with customers about how to solve business problems and improve business outcomes using strategic HR solutions.
The new rebranding effort also underscores Kenexa’s broader mission statement of transforming the global workforce. “With the rebranding of our company, we want to clearly communicate that the goal of Kenexa is to help put people around the world in the right jobs, and to create work environments that maximize their potential. By doing so, they are more productive employees, as well as better parents, friends, partners and neighbors,” said Rudy Karsan, CEO, Kenexa.
